My Story
My name is Omar Gutierrez Jr, and I LOVE grass volleyball.
I come from a family of volleyball players. It all started with the stories my dad — who has played for over 30 years, starting in high school — told me about the sport. From his brothers (my uncles) going undefeated all season for Bell High, only to lose to Reseda High in the CIF Finals, to him winning too many tournaments to count over at Westside Volleyball before focusing more of his time on work and family, to hearing about my cousin Lena playing school and club — I'm proud of my family, the Gutierrez family, and our roots in the sport.
I started playing at 14 at Rialto High School, competing my sophomore and junior years and for Forza1 North's 18U boys team. When COVID cut my season short, I turned to the outdoor game, and I've never felt a deeper connection. Since then, I've played everything from random pickup with Indian, Afghani, and Mexican teams to placing 3rd in the Orange County Crown at the Bad Boys Open (B Division) and taking first in several IVBall.la tournaments. From 2s to 6s, I've played everywhere — from Southern California to Hidalgo, Mexico, and even Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Now, I'm channeling the same love and passion I have for playing into organizing tournaments to grow the sport I love.
I brought my story. Now bring yours. Let's grow together!

On the Attack
